Tree service in Birmingham, AL
Our office is just over the line from Birmingham’s Southside, so the city’s older neighborhoods – Highland Park, Forest Park, Glen Iris, Crestwood – are some of our closest jobs.

Tree work in Birmingham
RJ Tree Service has worked in Birmingham since 1995. Our office sits on the Homewood side of Red Mountain, a few minutes from Southside and Five Points South, and a good share of our calls come from the city’s own neighborhoods on both sides of the mountain.
Birmingham’s older neighborhoods – Highland Park, Glen Iris, Forest Park, Crestwood and Avondale – were built mostly in the first half of the 1900s, some even earlier, and the trees planted then are now giants. Willow oaks and water oaks line the streets, big red and white oaks shade the backyards, and a lot of them are close to old houses, garages and retaining walls. Many of these trees are healthy and worth keeping with good pruning or a crown reduction; some have rot, dead tops or cracked unions and need to come down before a storm does it for them.
The lots are narrow, alleys are tight and on the slopes of Red Mountain the backyards drop off steeply. That is why a lot of our Birmingham jobs are done by climbing and lowering every piece on ropes, or with a crane that lifts sections over the house to the street. Wooded lots in the hills behind the houses are common too – there we carry the wood out with our tracked mini loader instead of driving a truck across the lawn.
Spring and fall storm lines often come straight through the city. After a storm we take calls day and night for trees on houses, cars and driveways, and we work through them as fast as the roads allow.
Trees along the street on the city right-of-way and trees in the main power lines are not the homeowner’s to cut. If your tree may fall under the city or under Alabama Power, we will tell you at the estimate so you can check with them first. For everything on your own property, the estimate is free and Wesley comes out himself.

Questions from Birmingham
Do you work in Birmingham itself, or only in the suburbs?
In Birmingham too – Southside, Five Points South, Glen Iris, Highland Park, Forest Park, Crestwood, Avondale and the other neighborhoods close to our office.
Can you take down a big tree in a narrow backyard with no access?
Yes. We lower the tree in pieces on ropes or lift it out over the house with a crane, and carry the wood out with a mini loader where a truck cannot go.
Who takes care of the trees along my street?
Trees on the city right-of-way belong to the city, and trees in the main power lines are trimmed by Alabama Power. We take care of the trees on your own property and will tell you at the estimate if yours could fall under the city or the power company.

What homeowners say about us
Wes has been amazing! We have used them three times in the last year from proactively trimming our canopy to taking down an entire large tree. He offers a great price and timely service. On top of that, he’s super friendly. Everyone in Birmingham should use RJ’s!
He was able to come out quickly to cut down a large rotten tree in my backyard. I had a few quotes before settling on RJ and he had the best price and was the most friendly person we had come by. He’s very friendly and professional and did a wonderful job. 10/10 recommend, if I ever have another tree issue I’ll definitely call RJ and his team.
Great price and service, highly recommend
